Ann Armitage

Ann was born in 1959 and gained an Honours Degree in Fine Art Painting at Canterbury College of Art and Design in 1987.
Since then she has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and was also commissioned to work on a mural, with a local artist, in the Jamuna Resort Hotel in Jhunjunu, Rajasthan, India in 1995. She won the Art Newspaper Award, Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries in 1994, the Travel Award, Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York in 1995 and the Northbrook College Award from the Royal Society of British Artists in 1998.
Ann’s landscape paintings are in response to the memories of walks along the Welsh or Cornish coasts , inspired by the sea and incidentals observed along the way, such as farms and tin mines. Her still lifes focus on the pots, bottles and cups that are in Ann’s studio. Rather than set up a still life, Ann uses the objects as a reference or starting point for a painting.
